Concert in the Park

Sept. 20 - Jack’d Up
Avid musician and guitarist, Kurt Kiehnle, founded a local band that was recently nominated “Best Musical Group”, by the prestigious Sarasota Herald-Tribune Readers’ Choice Awards 2022. This musical rock sensation, that goes by the wacky name of Jack’d Up, expressed immense happiness and gratitude to all listeners for recognizing their efforts and hard work. Kurt, fondly know as K Rock, rose to fame quickly when he established the band in 2018. Jack’d Up can be best described as a modern, fun and high-energy rock n roll cover band, that specializes in playing dance and party hits from the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and today. In their own words, “we will make you drink, dance and party all night long!”

Pumpkin Plunge

This family event incorporates traditional harvest-time activities with a new aquatic twist. Participants will have the opportunity to come to the North Port Aquatic Center and select their pumpkin from a floating pumpkin patch in the Competition Pool. They will then have the chance to decorate their chosen pumpkin at one of the art stations around the pool deck.
Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. No charge for supervising adults. This is event is open for children of all ages!

Mobile Food Pantry schedule
October 24th 10-2:00 pm
The Harry Chapin Mobile Food Pantry will continue to be in Punta Gorda on the 4th Thursday of each month until further notice, offering healthy foods for the needy.
The mobile pantry, assisted by volunteers from St. Vincent de Paul, Sacred Heart Conference, will be located in the Sacred Heart Church parking lot, 211 W. Charlotte Avenue, from approximately 10 a.m. to noon, or until the food runs out.
Fresh produce and other healthy foods will be distributed. Recipients are asked to bring a bag or box to carry their food.
The Harry Chapin Food Bank solicits, collects and stores quality food for distribution to families in need through a network of nonprofit agencies in Lee, Collier, Hendry, Charlotte and Glades counties. These agencies, including St. Vincent in Punta Gorda, provide food to thousands of people monthly.
St. Vincent is an international Catholic lay organization founded in 1833 to serve the poor, regardless of religious affiliation. It provides food, clothing, home furnishings, and financial assistance to individuals and families in need.

Launching this exciting new partnership between the Hermitage and the McNally Foundation, Zeniba Now is the inaugural recipient of the McNally Residency at the Hermitage and will present a community-wide program that will also feature remarks from Tony Award-winning Broadway producer Tom Kirdahy. “Zeniba Now: The Heartsong and Other Experiments” will feature original works performed by this singularly talented artist and performer. Crossing mediums and weaving genres, Zeniba Now is introducing audiences to her unique approach to musical storytelling. Along with her work, Zeniba will offer insight into her creative process.
A 2024 “Woman to Watch” on Broadway, Zeniba Now is an award-winning writer, musical storyteller, performer, and vocalist from Los Angeles, California creating commercial and independent art. As a writer of musicals, her work includes the musical shorts: “Beloved” (PBS, #BARS at The Public) and “To Be on Hold Forever / Stay on The Line” from “Human Resources” (St. Louis Rep, Woolly Mammoth), and the full length musicals: The Loophole (Richard Rodgers Award Winner, Headliner Pass The Mic Hip Hop Festival, Public Studio), Take the Lead (Paper Mill Playhouse 2025), The Thirst Trap (Dramatists Guild 60th Anniversary Gala), and a new musical in development with Disney Theatrical Productions. Audiences can see her past shows “iQuit: Millennial Retirement Gala,” “Sincerely, Z,” and “April Fools” on TikTok and YouTube. Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning composer Tom Kitt (Next to Normal, If/Then) and Emmy Award-nominated writer Daniel Goldfarb (HBO Max’s “Julia” and “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel)” are joining forces to create theatrical gold here at the Hermitage. These multi award-winning artists work across stage and screen to tell some of the most lauded stories of our time. Hear about the new project they are working on and get a taste of what that work has in store.
Tom Kitt is a two-time Tony Award, two-time Emmy Award, Pulitzer Prize, and Grammy Award winner. As a musical theater composer, he has written the music for six Broadway shows: Next to Normal (Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award), If/Then (Tony Award nomination), Flying Over Sunset (Tony Award nomination), High Fidelity, Bring It On: The Musical, and Almost Famous. His work for the stage has also been seen Off-Broadway at 2nd Stage (Next to Normal, Superhero), The Public Theater (The Visitor, Shakespeare in the Park), and he has worked at some of the most prestigious regional theaters including The Old Globe, Arena Stage, Berkeley Rep, The Signature Theater, and ART. In addition, Kitt’s Broadway credits as an orchestrator include: Next to Normal (Tony Award), Hell’s Kitchen (Tony Award nomination), The SpongeBob Musical (Tony Award nomination), Jagged Little Pill (Tony Award nomination), Almost Famous, Head Over Heels, Everyday Rapture, and American Idiot. He has also been active in the world of film and TV. As one of the vocal arrangers working on the Pitch Perfect films, Tom most notably helped create the classic “Riff-Off.” Healso served as music supervisor/arranger/orchestrator for “Grease Live” and contributed songs for “Royal Pains” and “Penny Dreadful.” He also provided music supervision for the NBC series “Rise” and has written numerous songs for “Sesame Street.” Kitt is also proud that his musical adaptation of Freaky Friday, co-written with Bridget Carpenter and Brian Yorkey, was turned into an original movie musical for Disney Channel. Tom also served as a Supervising Music Producer on the new Bobby Lopez/Kristen Anderson-Lopez/Steven Levenson/Thomas Kail musical television series “Up Here.”
Hermitage Fellow Daniel Goldfarb is a television writer/producer, screenwriter, playwright, librettist, and educator. He is the creator of HBO Max’s “Julia.” Other television work includes three seasons as a writer/producer on Amazon’s Emmy Award-winning “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” Film work includes the screenplay for the upcoming adaptation of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Daniel’s most recent play, Men’s Health, was released on Audible and was an ‘Audible Best of 2021.’ His other plays include Legacy (Williamstown); Cradle and All and Sarah, Sarah (both MTC); The Retributionists (Playwrights Horizons); Modern Orthodox (Dodger Stages); and Adam Baum and The Jew Movie (Blue Light). Musicals include Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me (Broadway); Piece of My Heart (Signature); Radio Girl (Goodspeed); and Party Come Here (Williamstown). He has been nominated for two Emmy Awards, three Writer’s Guild Awards (winning once), and a Producer’s Guild Award. He has also won an Oppenheimer Award for best NY debut, a Canadian Author’s Association Award for Best Play, and was a finalist for the Dramatist’s Guild Hull Warriner Award. He is a graduate of The Juilliard School and NYU’s Department of Dramatic Writing at Tisch, where he is an Associate Arts Professor.

Community Beach Yoga
EVERY DAY! All Year Round, all ages and abilities welcome! Certified husband and wife instructor and celebrating 15 years of yoga on Englewood Beach.
Yoga classes are designed for all abilities and ages. Visitors, locals and newcomers are equally welcome to our small Beach Yoga community. No previous Yoga experience is required.
Bring a blanket, a bottle of water and clothing that allows freedom of movement.
Morning classes to get the day started right.
Rain or Shine! Please make sure to dress warm enough on colder days, we will.
The teachers are certified. Plenty of Free parking is available.

The Englewood Area Orchid Society is an organization of beginners at orchid culture, orchid hobbyists, master gardeners, and professional growers. Everyone is welcome.
EAOS meets at 6:00 pm on the 3rd Monday of every month except December and August.

Membership in our society is $15 per year per family.
Our monthly meeting program usually features an orchid expert as guest speaker. There is a plant table for those who want to show the plants that they are growing.
Our biggest event of the year is our annual orchid show in Englewood, where orchid clubs from places like Sarasota and Venice join us to display members’ orchids. Awards are given by American Orchid Society judges. Vendors are on hand with orchids and supplies, and growing tips.

Launching the fifth season of “Hermitage Sunsets @ Selby Gardens” is Broadway veteran, Tony Award winner, and Hermitage Greenfield Prize finalist Britton Smith. The bandleader for the alternative soul band Britton and the Sting, this visionary artist and advocate is a force of nature determined to unite the world through a passion for music and theater. Britton’s vibrant work bears witness to the inspiration that can be found within and around us all. Catch this dynamic performer like never before in a stripped-down presentation surrounded by the beautiful sanctuary of Selby Gardens as the sun sets over Sarasota Bay.
Hermitage Fellow Britton Smith is an artist, activist, and Co-Founder/President of Broadway Advocacy Coalition. Founded in 2016, BAC has grown into a Tony Award-winning organization uniting artists with legal experts and community leaders to have lasting impact on policy issues including criminal justice reform, education equality, and liberation within the theatrical landscape. Smith is a proud co-creator of the organization’s staple methodology, Theater of Change, and was invited into Columbia Law School as an adjunct professor. Smith is also the front man and songwriter of the funk liberation band “Britton and The Sting,” which has been fueling the NYC music scene for years. Their shows feel like church in all of the best ways. Recently sold-out performances include the Apollo Music Cafe, Rockwood Music Hall, and Joe’s Pub. Britton has been featured in Vanity Fair, Vogue, Fault Magazine, and The New Yorker; Britton & The Sting was also featured in Paper Magazine’s “Bops Only: 10 Songs You Need to Start Your Weekend Right” list, as well as a featured 2020 NPR Tiny Desk Submission Top Pick.
