North Port 65th Birthday Celebration

Tuesday, June 18, 2024 | 04:00 PM to 06:00 PM

North Port’s future awaits! The City of North Port invites the community to its 65th Birthday Celebration on June 18. This free, family-friendly event will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. at the City Center Front Green, 4970 City Hall Blvd.

Attendees can look forward to a variety of activities and treats at the birthday bash, including taking a photo with a replica hot air balloon representing our city’s history and leaving their mark on a community art project.

On June 18, 1959, North Port was officially incorporated as a city, beginning a fast-tracked journey of growth, innovation and community spirit.

“North Port has come a long way since its incorporation in 1959, and we are excited to come together and honor our city’s rich history and bright future,” said City Manager Jerome Fletcher. “This is North Port’s biggest year yet and I’m looking forward to what North Port is going to become.”

The City would like to extend its gratitude to the event sponsors and community partners, including Sarasota County, the North Port Area Chamber of Commerce, North Port Art Center, HCA Florida Healthcare, Sarasota Memorial Health Care System and iHeartRadio for their support in making this celebration possible.

Mobile Food Pantry schedule

June 27, 2024
10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

The Harry Chapin Mobile Food Pantry will continue to be in Punta Gorda on the 4th Thursday of each month until further notice, offering healthy foods for the needy.

The mobile pantry, assisted by volunteers from St. Vincent de Paul, Sacred Heart Conference, will be located in the Sacred Heart Church parking lot, 211 W. Charlotte Avenue, from approximately 10 a.m. to noon, or until the food runs out.

Fresh produce and other healthy foods will be distributed. Recipients are asked to bring a bag or box to carry their food.

The Harry Chapin Food Bank solicits, collects and stores quality food for distribution to families in need through a network of nonprofit agencies in Lee, Collier, Hendry, Charlotte and Glades counties. These agencies, including St. Vincent in Punta Gorda, provide food to thousands of people monthly.

St. Vincent is an international Catholic lay organization founded in 1833 to serve the poor, regardless of religious affiliation. It provides food, clothing, home furnishings, and financial assistance to individuals and families in need.

TV audiences have also come to know Leslie, notably through her memorable turn as Carol Burnett on the series finale of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” Now, Hermitage audiences will get to know Leslie as a gifted writer, composer, and lyricist who has been developing her own original projects right here along the inspirational shores of the Hermitage. Join this quadruple-plus threat for a bit of both worlds: the songs you know and the next great work of American theater.

Hermitage Fellow Leslie Rodriguez Kritzer is a 2024 Tony Award Nominee for her showstopping turn as ‘Lady of the Lake’ in the Broadway revival of Spamalot. She previously starred on Broadway as Delia in Beetlejuice, for which she received Drama Desk, Drama League, and Chita Rivera Award nominations. Additional Broadway credits include Something Rotten!, Elf, Sondheim on Sondheim, Legally Blonde, A Catered Affair (Drama Desk nomination) and Hairspray. Off-Broadway: The Robber Bridegroom (Lucille Lortel Award and Drama League Award), Gigantic (Lucille Lortel nomination), ROOMS: A Rock Romance (Outer Critics Circle nomination), and others. She can be heard on several original casting recordings. Hear selections of the novel read by this Hermitage author and dive into conversation about the writing process in Bookstore1’s intimate loft space.
